Black Circus

Black Circus was invented as a vehicle in which allegorical stories about real life could be told in dramatic and entertaining way. It’s influence comes not from fine art but from the cinema. It is the unlikely attempt to make a film in paintings and drawings.

A collection of characters has been created by combining two distinct subcultures: The magic of the Circus and the mystery of the erotic underground. Each member of the cast has been created with a complete personality and backstory.

The characters are roughly divided into two categories representing good vs evil though some characters move seamlessly between these two extremes, engaging the idea that there is some good in evil as well as some evil in all those of virtue. There are some 50 characters in total that play varying roles in the Black Circus Drama.

The two factions representing good and evil are engaged in a fight to control the Circus. Along with the main story line there are many subplots that allow for unlimited narrative potential.

Two of the objectives that are present in all of my narrative projects are the expression of what I call our Global lives and our Intimate lives.
I define our Global life as that in which we are part of all civilization. The aspects of life that we are affected by constantly but are far beyond our reach as individuals to determine. War, world economies, natural and manmade disasters and events that though we are affected by them we have very little if any influence over.

The Intimate life is the our direct interaction with people and situations. Our families, our circle of friends and acquaintances, our work and social culture. Environments in which our actions and choices represent immediate consequences.
