Famous Russian TWINS, The Popovy Sisters have taken the art of dollmaking into a whole new level, with a vision that's bold but heavenly delicate.
Popovy Sisters started making ball-jointed dolls professionally in 2004, and 8 years later, in 2012 SISTERS brand was created, and now they collaborate with leading artists and fashion designers. Currently, Elena and Ekaterina are preparing for a big show in collaboration with celebrity fashion designer Michael Costello.
Among their collectors are the couturier Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton shoe designer Fabrizio Viti, Die Antwoord’s Yolandi Visser—who quite resembles a Popovy doll IRL, and many other well known art lovers.
One of the latest projects by Popovy Sisters include the introduction of the new Pearl Gray skin tone and, more importantly, their new dolls Land¥ and Land¥ Rat. They were “created for and supported by” Die Antwoord“, the South African zef/rap-rave duo whose singer ¥O-LANDI VI$$ER lent herself as a muse. Daring, alluring and tantalizingly fashion-forward, Land¥ makes it obvious that the singer and the sisters make a perfect match.
Popovy Sisters’ vision is bold but heavenly delicate, and the artistry awe-inspiring from start to finish. In this dollhouse, dreams are made of “little owl eyes”, “ballet feet” and a floral period corset in blue and white.
